Just a little bit of information you might find useful
Jamie Archer is a fifteen year old girl with medium brown hair and very freckly skin. She stands about 5’7 and has striking blue-green eyes. Jamie aspires to become a famous Hollywood actress. She has finally gotten what she thinks could be her “big break” in the upcoming drama movie “Queen of Darkness” with Orlando Bloom and Tom Felton, her two celebrity crushes. Her story starts on the plane to a somewhat remote town in Ireland.
Chapter One:
Jamie sat on the plane, script in hand, shaking slightly with her nervousness. She was going to live her dream and was hoping that everything would work out. This was all she had wanted for a long time, and if it didn’t work out, then Jamie didn’t know what she would do. What she was most nervous about however, was her nervousness. Whenever Jamie was in a new situation with people she didn’t know, she had a habit of being shy and not talking to anyone. It was a habit she had tried long and hard to break, but it was only snapping very slowly. Jamie sighed. The man in the seat beside her turned to face her.
“I looks like you could use some cheering up,” he said.
“I probably could,” Jamie thought to herself before responding. “I’m just a bit nervous about being in a place I’ve only visited once before, and this time I know no one. It’s just me on my own.” she said forcing a grin.
The man smiled back. “Just think of it as you getting your independence. We’ve all got to take some risks and just let go at times,” he said.
Jamie sighed again and thanked the man. She smiled slightly to herself and went back to her script reading. The movie looked like it was going to be an interesting one. It had plenty of drama and adventure. Jamie just wished she knew who would be playing roles in it.
[5 hours later]
“Please return your seatbacks to the upright position and store all tray tables. We will be starting our descent into Ireland. We hope you enjoyed the flight!” said the voice over the intercom, waking Jamie from a pleasant dream in which she was running through a meadow, barefoot, laughing and smiling. Once the plane landed, Jamie picked up her things, said goodbye to the man in the seat next to her, and got off the plane to pick up her baggage. While she looked for her bags, Jamie kept getting more and more nervous.
“Calm down,” she muttered to herself. “Everything will work out. You’re going to be fine.”
Jamie took a deep breath and looked for the person who would be taking her to the hotel that the cast and crew would be staying during filming. Soon she spotted a woman with flamboyant red hair and lots of freckles holding a sign saying, “ARCHER,” and a large black suitcase. Jamie walked over to the woman and smiled. The woman smiled back.
“Hello. I’m Jade. You must be Jamie.” she said in a thick Irish accent. Jamie nodded. “Well, I’m going to be your personal assistant. My first job is to get you to your hotel room.” said Jade, tossing her fiery hair.
Jamie smiled. She liked Jade already. The two walked outside and flagged a cab. They got in and told the driver the name of the hotel. Then the two started talking. Jade asked Jamie about herself.
“Well,” Jamie started, “I’m 15, this is the first movie I will have ever done, although I have acted in a few small plays. I’ve got a younger brother, he’s 12, and is the biggest nuisance. I miss him anyway. Lets see…” she said, stopping to think, “I was born just outside of London, but only lived there for a year. I enjoy traveling, and have been to Ireland once before. My mom is Irish. I’m not normally very open with people I don’t know, but I like you, and you seem really friendly, so talking with you is fun.” Jamie said with a smile.
“Thank you. I am flattered” Jade replied. “As for me, I’m 20, have three older brothers, and was born and raised in Dublin. I moved away from the city and into the country. Then I decided I want to be a personal assistant, and so here I am, being yours. Oh and my brothers started calling me Jade after the color of my eyes, so that’s why I go by Jade.” she grinned and Jamie saw that her eyes were indeed a brilliant jade color.
The two sat and talked about everything from favorite musical artists to most embarrassing moments for the next hour while still in the cab. They had become good friends very quickly. Jade then asked the driver how much longer it would take to get to the hotel. He replied that it was another ten minutes and then rambled on about what a nice place their hotel was. Jamie and Jade laughed to themselves. Soon, the cab pulled up to a small but beautiful looking hotel that resembled an old Victorian mansion with extensions. It was positioned on the highest of the three hills overlooking a luscious green meadow, on the far end of which was a forest. The setting sun loomed behind the hotel, dazzling the two with its brilliance.
Chapter Two:
Jamie and Jade had been given a room together. In their room were two large and comfortable-looking queen beds. There was also a large bathroom with an old claw foot bathtub and a pedestal sink. The whole room was done in crème and gold. They were now unpacking the clothes and such that they brought with them. Soon there was a knock on the door. Jamie answered it.
“Hello.” said a tall man with an English accent. “My guess is that you’re Jamie, and she,” he said pointed to Jade, “is Jade. The manager of the hotel told me that you two had checked in.”
The two girls said their greetings and Jade went back to unpacking. The man continued, “I’m Frank Douglass and I am the director. I spoke to you on the phone, Jamie. I came to tell you that the rest of the cast has now arrived, and that we are having a meeting down in the conference room.”
Jamie smiled at him and said, “We’ll be down shortly, it was great meeting you.”
The two girls stopped packing, grabbed their room keys, and went downstairs to the conference room. Jade started to walk in but Jamie stopped at the door. Jade rolled her eyes and pulled Jamie into the room after her. A few more people walked into the room after them. Then Frank got up to speak.
“It’s great to see you all here. I have been awaiting your arrivals. As you know, the movie we’re filming is ‘Queen of Darkness,’ a creation of my own. Right now, I thought we could just introduce the actors right now because I’m sure some of you are tired and jetlagged and would like to get some sleep. Let’s start with you, Ms. Kane.”
Gabriella stood up. She was tall, with long straight black hair down to her waist. When she turned to everyone, you could see her dark brown eyes, were almost black. “I’m Gabriella Kane. This is my second movie with Frank as director. I’m going to be playing the Queen of Darkness herself.” She put on a noble face. “And if all of you don’t obey me, you may find yourselves as my petty slaves.” Gabriella then smiled and laughed. She sat down.
A few more people introduced themselves and then it was Jamie’s turn. She stood up. “I’m Jamie Archer. This is going to be my first-ever movie, so I’m quite a bit nervous. Anyway, I’m 15, and am going to be playing Natalie. Please tell me if I’m doing everything wrong, so I can fix, well, everything in that case.” She smiled nervously and sat down too.
Frank stood up. “Very nice Jamie, I’m sure somebody will tell you. Next we have Mr. Bloom.”
A man with shaggy black curls and tan skin stood up and turned to the group. Jamie noticed how familiar he looked. He started talking, “My name is Orlando Bloom, and I’m going to be 27 in January. In the movie, my character is Tyler.” He paused for a moment then said jokingly, “I was Legolas in Lord of the Rings, so if you happen to annoy me, I may have to borrow one of Archer’s arrows…” he then sat down to a chorus to laughter while Jamie blushed and smiled.
A few more people introduced themselves and then came a boy who also looked familiar to Jamie. He stood up. “I’m Tom Felton. I’m slightly older than Jamie, 16. I was Draco Malfoy in the Harry Potter movies, but I assure you I’m not half as mean as Draco.” He smiled. “I’m going to be playing Nicolas in the movie.” Tom paused for a minute, and then put on a sleazy voice, “I enjoy long walks on the beach and candlelit dinners.” He sat back down smiling while everyone laughed. Then Frank got up again.
“So that’s everyone,” he said. “I want you all ready down in the lobby at 7am sharp tomorrow morning. We will discuss schedules and training and all of that. We will not be filming for a month. I’ll see all of you bright and early!” he said, walking out of the room.
A few people followed the suit by leaving the room, but most stayed behind to talk. Jade turned and muttered something about having to go talk with Frank and left the room. Jamie stood alone for a minute before Tom walked up to her.
“Hello,” he said, “Don’t worry about being nervous with your first movie. I’m sure you’ll do a great job.”
Jamie replied, “Thanks so much, you have no idea what it means to me. I’ve had to leave everyone back at home, and now I’m in a new place with new people, neither of which I know virtually anything about.”
Tom smiled at her and Jamie hoped he couldn’t tell she was blushing. Who would’ve thought that she would end up working on a movie with her two celebrity crushes, Orlando Bloom and Tom Felton? Now Jamie had to disguise the fact that she knew all about them. The two talked for a while.
Jamie then said, “I’m going to have to go up to bed now, I’m incredibly jet-lagged and need all the sleep I can get. I’ll see you early tomorrow morning!” Tom said goodbye and then Jamie walked out the room.
Jamie got in the elevator and then Orlando slipped in before the doors could close.
“What floor?” asked Jamie, who was standing by the floor buttons.
“Three please,” said Orlando with a small smile.
“Well what a coincidence,” Jamie said, “That’s the same floor that I’m on.”
Orlando smiled, and remembered his first big movie, The Fellowship of the Ring. He had been nervous too, and wanted to help Jamie less nervous, just at the cast of that movie had done for him.
“So you’re playing Natalie.” Orlando said, and Jamie nodded. “That means you have to save me.” Orlando laughed at the thought. So did Jamie.
“I guess so,” replied Jamie, “It should be interesting. But it’s not so much saving you as it is simply freeing you and Nicolas from the dungeon. We all take on the Queen.” She paused. “I guess I’m going to be learning to fight and whatnot.” The elevator stopped moving and opened its doors.
“Yes, we all are going to learning to fight. Even me, although I have done quite a bit of fighting for some of my other movies.” The two stopped at door right next to each other. 302 and 304. “Another coincidence,” said Orlando. The two said goodnight and each stepped into their respective rooms.
Jamie was met with a hug from Jade. “You did such a good job!” she said, while Jamie muttered an embarrassed ‘thanks.’ Jade just kept talking, “Okay, tomorrow morning is when we’re going to find out what you’ll be doing all day. I know that you’ll have training and school, but when and where, I don’t know. Anyway, let’s get some sleep, tomorrow is an early start.”
Jamie stared at her. She sighed and got ready for bed. “Goodnight” she said to a sleepy Jade. Jamie turned out the light and stared at the dark ceiling, listening to Jade’s slight snoring. “What an adventure this is turning out to be,” she thought to herself.
Chapter 3
The cast and crew were standing in the lobby with Frank. Almost everyone looked exhausted. Frank was wide awake and rather annoyingly bouncy.
“Good morning everyone!” he said. “Today all of you will be meeting everyone you’ll be working with. Trainers and Tutors and those sorts of people. So, I need Orlando, Tom, and Jamie to go and please stand next to Mr. Sanders here.” Frank pointed to a large man with shoulder-length blonde hair. “He will start teaching you about all the fighting you will be learning during this month.” The three went and stood next to Mr. Sanders, who introduced himself as Alex.
Frank continued. “Gabriella, I need you and the people playing your bodyguards to go with Mr. Roland. He will be teaching all of you a different style of fighting than what Alex is teaching the other three,” he said. Quickly, a group of people including Gabriella walked over to a tall man with very short brown hair, Shawn Roland.
Still talking, Frank went on, “All stunt men and women should please go and see Mr. Grant, who is in charge of everything stunt-related.” A group of people walked over to a very powerful looking man with a large smile on his face. Frank said, “Vincent, you may take them to wherever you will be training them.”
Turning to everyone who was waiting to be told what to do, Frank said, “I would like to meet briefly with all personal assistants for about half an hour right now. All crew members please go to the conference room where I will be shortly to discuss everything. You may all go and start now!”
Orlando, Tom and Jamie followed Alex down into a corner of the meadow the hotel was named after. There was a small tent set up with four fold up chairs. “Please, have a seat.” said Alex, taking one himself.
“Well as I told you,” Alex said, “I’m Alex Sanders. I’d like you all to call me ‘Alex.’ I am going to be instructing you three in the fighting arts. You will be learning to fight with daggers, swords, and your hands. I know you,” he said to Orlando, “have done some fighting before, since I’ve seen it in all three of the Lord of the Rings movies. But what about you two?” he asked Jamie and Tom.
Jamie spoke up first. “I have done no fighting whatsoever. Looks like you’re going to have to teach me everything.” Tom looked at Jamie and smiled. “It’s the same with me. I get to learn everything too! Unless of course you give me a magic wand…” Everyone laughed.
Alex looked at the three of them. It was going to be a challenge, teaching two that had never done any fighting before. He was sure they would be up to the job though. “Well,” he said. “I might as well start off by showing you a little of what you’ll be able to do when I get through with you.” Alex got up and stepped out from under the tent. “This is one routine that Jamie will be using against one of the Queen’s guards,” he said. Then Alex started kicking and punching in a very graceful way. He did a whole routine. After a final punch he stopped. Jamie looked at him with terror written all over her face.
“You’re going to teach me to do that?” she said. Alex replied, “That and a whole lot more. Don’t worry about it. It’s all muscle memory. I’m sure you’ll do very well.” The four sat and chatted for a while.
Soon, three personal assistants of Orlando, Tom, and Jamie came down into the meadow. Jade walked up to Alex. “Sorry, Alex,” she said, “But we’re going to have to steal your students from you. Frank doesn’t want them to actually start learning today, but more of just meet all the people they’ll be working with.” Then a short woman with cropped blonde hair, Orlando’s secretary Lindsay, spoke up. “Frank says we have to take them to the costume department to be fitted.” She smiled. “And after that it’s off to hair and make-up,” said a man with very curly brown hair. He was Tom’s assistant, Mark. “Well it was nice meeting them anyways,” said Alex, waving goodbye to the six people who were walking up the hill to bunch of trailers that were positioned near the hotel.
They soon reached the top and met Olivia, the costume designer and her assistants. Orlando, Tom, and Jamie were each standing on a block being measured. Olivia started talking. “Soon, this who trailer will be full of racks of clothes. Each of you will have a rack of just your clothes. Every day that you are filming, you’ll come here after hair and make-up, so we can dress you for whatever scene you’re doing that day. Before filming, you will be coming in here occasionally for fittings to make sure your outfits are right. Any questions?” she asked.
Nobody had any questions. Olivia picked up the sheets with all their measurements on it and told them they were free to go wherever was next. Next was hair and makeup. Orlando, Tom, and Jamie were each swept into a chair in front of a mirror. Immediately Anita, the hairdresser, came to Jamie while Orlando, who was on Jamie’s right, was talking to Terri, the make-up artist, and her assistant.
“Jamie, dear, do you mind if I take your hair down so I can look at it?” Anita asked. Jamie took the rubber-band out for Anita. Her brown hair was naturally highlighted with reds and gold, and fell in waves to the middle of her back. Anita smiled and started muttering to herself. She also started writing things down, ideas Jamie presumed. Soon she left and Terri came over. Jamie could see Anita messing about with Orlando’s curls. She laughed.
Terri asked about what make-up Jamie normally wore. “I don’t usually wear any actually.” Jamie told her. “For parties and things I’ll put on some eyeliner and lipstick, but apart from that I just leave my skin alone.” Terri told her she had better get used to wearing make-up, seeing as how she would wearing be everyday. Both laughed.
Soon all three had been looked at. The three walked out of the trailer and met up with their personal assistants again. Lindsay and Orlando walked away. The rest of the day was free time for them. Tom and Jamie were led by Mark and Jade to a little room off the main conference room of the hotel. There they met Patrick, their tutor. Jamie looked disgusted at the thought of school. Mark told her and Tom that after they were finished with Patrick, the rest of the day was theirs to do whatever with.
Patrick told Tom and Jamie to each sit down in a desk. How he got two desks in a hotel, neither knew. He started talking. “When you two are here, you will still have to have school. I think it is very important for young actors and actresses to keep up with their education. I’m now your teacher for every subject. We’re going to have to find out where the both of you are in all subjects; I’m probably going to end up going through something that you’ve already learned. If so, just tell me. We can move ahead then. You two are probably going to be at slightly different levels. Jamie, because you’re younger, you are probably going to be a bit behind Tom. Don’t worry though, I’ll catch you up. I’ll be somewhere on set everyday that you’re filming so you can learn on set. We will have fun though. Not everything in school is boring.” Jamie and Tom smiled at him.
“I would like you each to fill out this little quiz so I can tell where you are academically. Then you are free to go.” said Patrick, handing them each a packet and a pen.
They each spent the next hour filling in all the questions. Tom got up first and handed his papers to Patrick. He walked out of the room, giving Jamie a small smile and wink. About five minutes later Jamie also handed her papers to Patrick. She left the room with a sigh, to find that Tom had waited outside the door for her. Jamie smiled at him. The two walked off together down to a cluster of rocks by the edge of the meadow.
Chapter 4
Jade had immediately interrogated Jamie about Tom when she walked into the room, which had a window overlooking the meadow. Now Jamie was lying in bed, staring up at the ceiling, thinking about the time she and Tom spent together earlier. They had sat in the meadow for hours, just talking and laughing, as if they were old friends. After a while, Orlando came down and sat with them. The three of them simply sat and talked about everything. Jamie particularly loved hearing about everything on the sets of the Lord of the Rings movies and the Harry Potter movies. She had always loved them. Jamie told them about life back where she lived, and all of her friends. It was the last week of April; soon they would be taking exams, while she was filming a movie. Jamie decided that both guys were just as nice and everything as they had always seemed in interviews she read. They were so kind to her; they really made her worries disappear. Jamie sighed and rolled over, trying to work out her feelings. In her mind, feelings were a pain. She drifted to sleep.
Jamie woke up a few hours later, tired still from jetlag. Jade was in the shower. Jamie got out of bed reluctantly and walked to the closet, since she had showered last night. She pulled on her black jeans and cookie-monster t-shirt. A hoodie was put on over the shirt, because Jamie got cold very easily. She stared out the window until Jade was ready to go. Then Jade took Jamie back down to the meadow and the tent, where Alex and Orlando were waiting, talking to each other. Jade walked off, and after a few minutes, Tom came down, looking very tired. He muttered “good morning” to everyone and sat down.
Alex started talking. “Today is your first day of training. We’re going to start by learning a bit of hand-to-hand fighting.” He stood up and walked out from under the tent. “So if you would please all come out here and stand up.” The three walked out and stood in front of him. “We’re going to start with punches….”
Fours hours and many, many bruises later, Alex told them they were done for the day. Jamie, Tom, and Orlando trudged up the hill back to the hotel and sat themselves down in the lobby, waiting for orders on where to go next. Each was already exhausted. Soon Jade, Mark, and Lindsay walked over to them, each with a big smile.
Mark was first to say anything. “Well Tom, you and Jamie need to go see Patrick. School time!” Jamie frowned and got up. She and Tom walked towards the room they had been in yesterday while Lindsay started talking to Orlando.
Tom and Jamie entered the room with the desks and each sat down in one. Patrick started talking. “I took a look over your quizzes, and you’re both more or less at the same point. I don’t have to teach anything that would be a real repeat to either of you. With that said, we can start to learn…” For the next three hours Jamie and Tom went over all subjects with Patrick. Some needed more work than others. Physics was not a strong point for either. They were finally allowed to leave, their heads buzzing with information.
“I’m already confused.” Jamie told Tom, who nodded. He then said, “Hey, how about you, me, Gabriella, and Orlando get together in the conference room and have a read through of the script, or the scenes any of us have together.” Jamie told him that sounded like a good idea. The two split up to go find either Orlando or Gabriella.
Half an hour later, the four were sitting in the conference room, each with a script in hand. The first few scenes were between Jamie and Orlando.
“Jon you can’t leave now.” Jamie read. “Father has already been pestering me with marriage proposals. You know what I think about those. If you leave then he’s going have all those princes rounded up and sent over here, and force me to choose one.”
Orlando then read. “I have to leave Natalie. The journey is something I have to do. Castle life just isn’t exciting anymore. I’ve always wanted to be a knight, you know that. So now I’m finally going to go and become one. You’ll be fine here. I promise.”
It was Jamie’s line again. “But-but can’t you take me with you? Becoming a knight sounds far more interesting then sitting around and sewing.”
“It’s a dangerous road that I’m going to be taking.” Orlando said. “And your father would have my head if you got hurt on a journey with me. I’m afraid you cannot come. It’s time for our lives to separate. We used to do everything together, but you need to prepare for marriage to a prince, and I need to become a knight and honorable man. We aren’t children anymore.”
The scene reading went on for a while. Then Jade came into the room, interrupting a scene between Tom and Gabriella, and took Jamie away, saying something about dress fittings.
The two walked to the costume trailer, to find that Olivia wanted to measure Jamie again, just to be sure. She talked about clothing styles and such with the two for a while and what would be best for Natalie as a character, and then sent them on to see Terri. Jamie was told to sit down in her chair. Terri talked about cutting her hair.
“The style you have right now isn’t right for the Natalie’s character. Do you mind if we cut it?” Terri asked. Jamie replied no, that she needed a haircut anyway.
A little bit later, Jamie and Jade came out of the trailer. Jamie’s hair now layered to give it more shape. The two made their way to a cast dinner in the hotel dining room.
