A long time ago the Drow were (supposedly) pushed into the Under-Dark by the elves. The two are mortal enemies. So all of their magic and weapons work best at night. They can't stand the sun. Bright light makes the Drow (almost) worthless because it hurts their eyes.
Dark elves worship Lloth, the Spider Queen. Their city is as beautiful as any elven city, just a dark and evil one. They enslave the Under-Dark races and war with everything else. They hate surface creatures the most, though they have been known to make deals with humans and other evil creatures.
Drow are the best swordsman you can find. The males train most of their lives in either sword fighting, or wizardry. They are adept at two-handed fighting and using every dirty trick in the book to win. There are no words for love and the like in their language. Females dominate in the cities. There are many family houses and in each city there are eight ruling houses. The matrons rule the houses and males are expendable. All of matron’s children are considered nobles, the rest are soldier, and the kobolds and other creatures (mass bred) are fodder. All Drow are able to use faerie fire (a harmless flame that doesn't burn or hurt their eyes, mostly used to outline an enemy and make them a better target.), and a globe of darkness. Which no light can penetrate. Each spell wears off. Nobles are able to use the power of levitation. Not flight, they can only go up and down. They learn to blend in with the heat pattern in rock, and the can see in in-fravision if they so choose.
Dark elves all have their own agenda. Enemies close at hand will keep them organized and in union with each other. But they are always fighting themselves; lower houses destroy upper houses to gain rank in the city. When a house goes on a raid they must kill each and every noble, it must be complete. They will be rewarded. And even if they are witnessed by another house, it won't matter. Only a noble of the house attacked can testify against the attacking. Then the whole city will join against the attacking house. A successful raid is rewarded and applauded, though not verbally. Do not get encouraged by this, the Drow will not destroy themselves even if brothers are stabbing their older brothers in the back or nobles are killed while walking around. The city is not safe since each Drow is a highly trained assassin.
Each house has a Matron, A Weapon's Master, a Wizard and several priestesses. Drow priestesses are blessed by Lloth and use highly devastating spells, hardly any clerical spells, unless it's self-healing, against their enemies. High Priestesses use snake-headed whips that seem to branch off of the priestesses will alone. Toxins are set in each snakehead. Each weapon is magical and they can track an echo to it's source. They raid the surface to kill elves all the time, and always under cover of night. They can call upon demons to do their dirty work. They sacrifice themselves, usually males they are displeased with, for their dark goddess's favor.
Hair: Stark-White or silver (tainted blood) – Usually long
Eyes: Red, glows when using in-fravision
