You walk out into a beautifully lit, spacious courtyard made out of stone. Flowers are in full bloom, and benches are laid out around a large fountain. Hedges and trees decorate and mark the boundaries of the courtyard.

Jane wandered out to the courtyard, quietly seeking a peaceful pleace in which to write a letter to her parents on life so far at Hogwarts. She searched around for a good spot to sit, enjoying the fresh air. Once she found a nice place, she sat down and took out her books, and a clean piece of paper. Then Jane took a deep breath as she organized her thoughts on her writing. When she had it all figured out, she brought out her quill from her robes and began writing.

Telery was sitting under one of the big trees lining the courtyard. She was supposed to be studying, but couldn't focus, her mind was restless, it had been for weeks. if I could only figure out what is bothering me, I can get along with my work, she often found herself thinking. But it wasn't to be helped, so she just occupied herself with looking around, gazing at the other students. At a quiet spot sat a young girl. First year probably, she thought, Ow, wait, she's from Ravenclaw, Jane something, the quiet one. She thought about saying hello, but the girl took out her quill and started writing something, which immediately reminded her of the mountain of work she still had to finish. Better start with potions, gotta keep up the good work now that Snape is finally warming up to me.

Jane bit her lip as she scribbled over the errors she made on her letter. She paused for a moment, the looked at her paper and sighed in frustration with herself. Her letter didn't seem like a letter at all, more like a bird had gotten its feet into the ink and hopped around on the paper. The girl had trouble in writing with handling a quill, which was something she was used to using. 'I miss writing with a regular pen...' she thought. She took a look around, waving her tired wrist around a bit to loosen it up. Her cold blue eyes looked at a fellow first year who seemed to be waving at her who thought Jane was waving at him. No expression came to her face as she waved in return out of politeness. She looked over to Telery, for a moment; she was sure the girl looked at her for a moment, but she figured it was all in her mind as she looked to her own feet while she let her hand rest for a moment.

Telery looked up again, and saw that Jane was struggling with the quill and the ink. She giggled a little inside, remebering the first time she had to use a pen two summers ago, it took her hours before she figured out you didn't need ink, but just had to puch the button on ths bottom of the pen. Maybe she could use this Telery thought a she took something resembling a quill out of her bag. She got up and walked over to the first year Ravenclaw.
"Jane is it not? Maybe this would make the writing a little easier" She handed the quill. "This is one of the Weasley Twin's newest invention, for struggling muggle-born first years. Its a pen quill, it looks like a quill, but works like a muggle pen, just take of the top."

Jane was nearly startled by Telery's approach. "Yeah, that's my name." she replied as she looked up at Telery, then over to the quill. She was hesitant for a moment in grabbing the quill. 'I don't remember asking for help, but...' she thought, looked over at the paper she had written on. Then she decided it could be better if she accepted the offer. Jane reached up slowly and took the quill. "Thank you," she said, "I'll give it back as soon as I'm done."

"No problem." Telery said, smiling friendly as she turned to go back to her spot. She always felt a little unwelcome around Jane. Well, whatever, I've done my good deed for to day, and who knows, maybe she'll warm up one day.
She sat back down among her books, and continued on the essay she had to write for Snape, moving her quill easily and elegantly over the parchment.

Jane examined the quil closely, then she began scribbling on the paper which she wrote the first draft of her letter on. She smiled a bit in satisfaction, knowing she wouldn't have as much trouble. Then she began writing her letter to her parents:
Dear mom and dad, I hope you're doing okay, I am. It's a little hard adjusting here, but I'll get used to it soon. I've been doing alright in my studies, though they're a bit hard. Hard to believe, to be exact. There's so much more to learning magic than I thought. But I'll be fine. Just letting you know I'm doing alright, I miss you both. Tell Melissa I said hi. -Love, Jane.
And there she finished her letter; it was a lot shorter than the first draft, but she was glad to have been able to write it at all. She looked up wondering how her parents, and her muggle friend who only believes she's at one of those schools for genius children, were doing. She gave a little sigh as she snapped out of it, then stood up after setting her things on the ground and walked towards Telery to hand her the quill back. "Um, excuse me." she said softly.

OOC: Sorry that I've been away for a while, I've just been really busy, I've got exams next week and I got a late start, so I have to do a lot right now. And the football world cup is starting (that means many evenings in front of the tv watching 22 men with nice legs and abs ) Telery looked up, "hi again. Done already?" She smiled friendly.

OOC: It's okay, good luck with your exams. :3
Jane nodded as she handed the quill back to Telery and nodded. "Yeah," she replied softly, "thanks again...Um...which store did you buy from?" She discreetly bit her lower lip, not really liking to ask questions, but if it made things easier for her, then of course she asked. But the coldness in her eyes was still there in her gaze, though now mixed with a bit of shyness.

Telery felt the girls cool, shy gaze upon her, and a shiver of pity went down her spine. This girls is hard to warm up too, Telery thought.
"They are the newest brand of quills invented by the Weasly twins, you can get them at their shop in Daigon Alley. They have the most amazing stuff, and on Hermoine's request they have started developing a new range of muggle adjustment products. This quill is one of those." Telery put the quill back in het bag. "How do you like Hogwarts so far? I just love it here, if I had any didactic skills I would definately come back as a professor."

"I see," Jane responded, "Hogwarts...is alright..." 'Huh, why's she asking?' she wondered, blinking.

Telery realised that Jane was really ill at ease, but wasn't sure wether to ask about it. Maybe she has a hard time adjusting, because it's such a change from the Muggle world. Telery thought, and she didn't want to come across rude by bluntly asking what was wrong.
"It must be quite a change from the muggle world?" Telery asked carefully.

Jane looked over to where she was sitting to make sure the things she brought with her were still there, then turned back to Telery and nodded.
"Yeah, it is." she replied calmly. It was no issue for her to answering, she'd rather be honest; but it was a little strange talking to someone for the longest time since the last, yet it was nice at the same time.

Seeing Jane glance at her stuff, Telery said: "Why don't you come and sit here. You know, you can't trust everybody at Hogwarts, especially the slytherins, they seem to enjoy stealing other peoples property. And I might be able to help you with some of you work." Looking back up at Jane, she realized that might not have been the right thing to say. "Not that I think that you can't do it yourself." Telery stammered.
